This weekend you can get spooked at a haunted house or plan ahead and do some holiday shopping at an antique and craft show.
The Western Kansas Antique and Craft Show is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Exhibition Building at the Finney County Fairgrounds.
The event features antiques, handmade crafts and collectables from more than 100 vendors. Kaye Nichols, who organizes the event, said that this year, about 50 percent of the booths are new vendors.
"That makes it really exciting. People can definitely expect to see new stuff," Nichols said.
Nichols compares the indoor craft show to Whimmydiddle in Scott City. She said the Western Kansas Antique and Craft Show is spread out over two days but sees a similar amount of visitors compared to Whimmydiddle.
"It's a terrific show," Nichols said.
Exhibitors at the show will come from several states, including Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri.
Nichols said it's a perfect time to get a head start on Christmas shopping and said there will be a variety of vendors and items on sale.
There also will be numerous food vendors, including a concession stand selling baked potatoes, sloppy joes and beef stew. Other food vendors will sell pies, cookies, jerky, fudge and more. This year is the 29th year for the craft show.
There is no cost to enter the craft and antique show.
There will be a haunted house this weekend at the Girl Scout Little House at 108 Hackberry St., across from Garfield Elementary School. There will be a "barely scary" hour from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. And for the braver souls, the haunted house will get "very" scary from 8 to 11 p.m. each night.
The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. A $2 discount will be given with a donation of one nonperishable food item, with a limit of one discount per person. Proceeds go to Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, and food items benefit the Emmaus House.
