USD 457 board accepts retirements

At Monday night's Garden City USD 457 meeting, the board of education took the following action:

  • Accepted the following retirements: D. Elaine Schalesky, school counselor at Garden City High School; Pansy Fryman, library media specialist at Victor Ornelas Elementary School; and Susan Waller, reading interventionist at Buffalo Jones Elementary School.

    Schalesky will have completed 28 years with the district and a total of 32 years in education. Fryman will have completed 41 years in education and 36 years with USD 457, and Waller will have completed 35 years in education with the district.

  • Accepted the following resignations: Bruce Bryan, third-grade teacher at Jennie Barker Elementary School; Kristen Douglass, special education para at Florence Wilson Elementary School; T. Glen Kasper, seventh-grade science teacher at Abe Hubert Middle School; Amy E. Gillen, kindergarten teacher at Jennie Wilson Elementary School; and Peggy Pool, seventh-grade language arts teacher at Abe Hubert.

  • Accepted a low bid of $16,000, plus $200 per tree, from Dick Construction, Garden City, to demolish and remove debris from two houses at Garfield Elementary School. The school will become an early childhood center once construction on bond projects are complete.

  • Accepted a bid from Pryor Automatic Fire Sprinkler, Great Bend, for $19,630 for a fire suppression system for the Educational Support Center.
