Brad Nading/Telegram Martha Schwend prepares one of the recipes during last year's Taste of Home Cooking School session at the Finney County Exhibition Building. This year's event is scheduled for Thursday night at the exhibition building.

The event, coordinated locally by The Garden City Telegram, will be presenting 10 recipes at the Exhibition Building at the Finney County Fairgrounds.

Familiar to Taste of Home magazine readers, the presentation includes some of the favorite sections from the magazine.

Home Economist Danielle Edmonds will take the stage to prepare recipes and will give cooking tips to the audience. A variety of national sponsors will be highlighted, including Gallo Family Vineyards, Jimmy Dean, Philadelphia cream cheese, Velveeta, fresh mushrooms, and Ziploc and Ziploc containers.

Charity Ochs, advertising director at The Telegram, is helping organize the show. She said the Taste of Home Cooking School will present 10 recipes, and the show will last about three hours, with a 15-minute intermission.

The doors open at 4 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. People can browse 19 booths and vendors before the show, Ochs said.

Last year, about 1,000 people attended the show.

Every attendee receives two free Taste of Home cookbooks, which include all the recipes prepared on stage and dozens more, plus a free gift bag with coupons and product samples provided by various sponsors.

"It's not expensive," Ochs said about the show. "It's something different. And they're easy recipes."

Before the show, volunteers will go through each recipe and prepare the ingredients.

The emcees for the show include Troy Unruh of State Farm Insurance and Shonda Collins of Wheatfields on Main.

The dishes prepared at the show also will be given away at the end of the show.

VIP seating is sold out, and the 30 people who purchased VIP tickets will receive a more than 300-page Taste of Home cookbook and be seated in the first three rows.

VIP tickets may be sold out, but plenty of tickets are still available for the public to purchase. Tickets are $6 before the event and $7 at the door. Tickets can be purchased by visiting The Telegram, 310 N. Seventh St.
