It's been a rainy, cool week in southwest Kansas, and residents could need their umbrellas again for the weekend.

Since last weekend, Garden City has seen more than 1.5 inches of rain, the National Weather Service in Dodge City said. Included in that total is 1.22 inches the city received on Wednesday.

Other parts of Finney County also have received more rain this week. On Wednesday, an area south of Garden City received 2.07 inches, while the northern part of the county saw 1.81 inches, the weather service said.

The extreme northwest part of the Finney County on Wednesday saw 2.6 inches of rain, as did areas of Wichita, Scott and Kearny counties.

The eastern portion of the county received anywhere from .6 inches to .9 inches of rain on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in southwest Kansas, parts of south Kearny County received more than 1.5 inches, Hamilton County received slightly less than 1.5 inches, and an area from Greeley County to Wichita County received more than an inch of rain.

Hamilton County also saw more than an inch of rain on Sunday.

Tom Wright, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said so far this year, Garden City has received 14.59 inches of rain — .77 inches above average for this time of the year.

Wright said Garden City started out quite a bit under the average rainfall total in the first few months of the year but has made up for it recently.

All of the counties in The Telegram's coverage area have received rain this week, and the chances of rain continue into the weekend.

Today will be partly cloudy with a 20-percent chance of rain and temperatures in the mid 70s. The chance of rain continues into Friday, with a slight chance of showers in the morning and a 30-percent chance of rain Friday afternoon and evening, the weather service said.

Saturday will be partly sunny in the mid 80s, with a 20-percent chance of storms, and the temperatures will be back in the 90s for Sunday.
