Establishing a four-lane highway from Garden City to Dodge City should be the top transportation goal for the Southwest Kansas Coalition, many voters in the latest GCTelegram.com poll said.
Four-laning U.S. Highway 50/400 from Garden City to Dodge was the most popular choice out of four goals being discussed by the coalition, with 238 votes out of 609 (39.08 percent) in favor of that choice.
The second-most popular choice was four-laning U.S. Highway 54/400 from Mullinville to Kingman, with 156 votes (25.62 percent) for this option. This idea emerged as the top priority of coalition members — officials from Garden City, Dodge City and Liberal — with the thought that it would be the best way for the Kansas Department of Transportation to eventually bring a four-lane highway out to far southwest Kansas.

Imagine that! A poll conducted in Garden City, in the Garden City newspaper, favors a project that would benefit Garden City! Were you surprised by the results? I have been following the SKC and I believe they have hit the nail on the head with the 54/400 project.
