Lee Richardson Zoo hours to change

Lee Richardson Zoo will begin summer hours on Tuesday. The zoo will open at 8 a.m. daily. Visitors may enter until 6:30 p.m., and the zoo will close at 7 p.m. These hours will be in effect through Labor Day.

Admission fee is $3 per vehicle for non-member vehicles entering the zoo after 10 a.m. Members will be required to show a current membership card and photo identification. Memberships can be purchased at the Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo Development Office, next to the Safari Shop at the zoo.

Pedestrians are always admitted free.

Art show to open with reception

The next art show at Garden City Community College's Beth Tedrow Student Center will open with a public reception from 2 to 4 p.m. April 4, featuring a collection of oil paintings, drawings and ceramic works by student Kate Dibbern of York, Neb.

The exhibition will be staged in the walk-through gallery adjacent to the student center portico, where the GCCC Art Department occasionally showcases student work.

Dibbern's images were created in Oil Painting I and II and Drawing I and II courses, as well as ceramic art courses.

The opening reception will include refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artist, and the works will remain on display through April 27. The location is open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 1 to 11 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Microsoft, Excel courses coming up

Garden City Community College's Continuing Education and Community Services Division is offering courses soon for those who want to learn about two Microsoft computer programs:

n An intermediate class on Microsoft Word is from 6 to 8 p.m. April 7 and 9 at GCCC's Student and Community Services Center, 801 Campus Drive. It will cover topics like manipulating pictures, tables and columns, plus information about word processing and computers.

n A beginner's class on Excel is from 6 to 8 p.m. May 5 and 7 at the Student and Community Services Center. Participants can learn how to build a family budget and handle other tasks, such as creating a grocery list. Basic computer skills are helpful for the course.

Each course costs $35. Registration and information for both courses are available from Diana Machotka at 275-3232 or diana.machotka@gcccks.edu.

K-State open house set for April 19

High school students who are considering attending Kansas State University can learn more about the school at an All-University Open House from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19 at K-State's two campuses, in Manhattan and Salina.

At the free open house, prospective students can receive tours and view exhibits. Admissions and financial aid representatives will be available to answer questions about applying to and paying for college, residence hall staff will discuss living and dining on campus, and students and faculty will share information about academic programs, Greek life and student organizations.
