By The Telegram
A former Garden City man arrested in Dallas on a 13-year-old allegation of attempted first-degree murder remained in the Finney County jail this morning.
On Aug. 25, 1995, Sergio Loera, 31, allegedly shot co-worker Edgar Terrazas, then 21, as many as seven times with a .45 caliber handgun outside the former Monfort beef plant near Mansfield and Farmland roads.
According to an investigation, the shooting stemmed from an argument and Loera fled the area that night.
Finney County Undersheriff John Andrews said deputies transported Loera back to Finney County Sunday after Loera waived extradition.
The circumstances regarding his arrest in Dallas were not available this morning.
A public defender has been appointed to represent Loera, who is being held on a $100,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 30.
Depending on a person's criminal history, if convicted, attempted first-degree murder can carry a prison term of 12 to 54 years.
