Fire contained to bedroom of home

Personnel with Kearny County emergency medical services, sheriff's office and fire department all responded Thursday to a mobile home fire in Lakin that caused smoke damage but left two adult occupants unharmed.

According to the Kearny County Sheriff's Office, the departments were dispatched around 1:41 p.m. Thursday to a structure fire at 1208 W. Waterman in Lakin. Upon arrival, emergency crews found a single-wide mobile home with smoke coming from a bedroom on the home's south end.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the south bedroom and extinguish it. The home also sustained smoke damage.

A release from the sheriff's office states the fire "is believed to be accidental with the possibility of an electrical short near one end of the bedroom."

The American Red Cross had been notified of the fire.
