A Garden City teen convicted in connection with a gang-related beating in December was sentenced Thursday to two years probation, including a six-month term at Labette Women's Correctional Conservation Boot Camp.
Joslyn Hernandez, 18, will be transported to Labette County on Monday.
District Court Judge Robert Frederick sentenced her to an underlying prison term, which means if she does not complete the boot camp or violates any other probation conditions, she will be sent to prison to serve less than two years.
Hernandez was convicted in March of conspiracy to commit aggravated battery for her role in the gang-related beating of 18-year-old Adam Rosas at H and H Trailer Park.
She entered a plea of no contest to the lesser offense, and charges of attempted second-degree murder were dismissed. No contest is not an admittance of guilt, but the defendant does not contest the charges against her.
Hernandez was ordered to pay $413 in court fees, and she must share the total restitution of $2,449.54 with seven others who have been sentenced. Any other teens sentenced in the case also will share the restitution amount.
She is one of 10 teens charged in Rosas' beating. She joins seven others who have entered plea agreements. One teen is facing an adult certification hearing, and another teen is scheduled to go to trial.
According to previous court testimony, Hernandez was implicated along with five others of knowing about a fight at H and H Trailer Park and showing up after the beating.
