Fairs, fun, fundraisers this weekend

Plenty of events and activities are happening in and around Garden City this weekend.
The Stanton County fair runs today through Monday and this weekend's Pioneer Days will add to the fun.
Friday's activities include a parade decorating party from 1:30 to 4 p.m., a three-on-three basketball tournament and the Stanton County Library's Movie Under the Stars.
Saturday's events include a two-mile Fun Run at 7 a.m. beginning at the REC office. The Masonic Lodge will hold the annual breakfast at 7 a.m.
The tractor pull begins at 9 a.m. and the turtle race also begins at 9 a.m. The Johnson Pioneer's shopping cart race starts at 10 a.m., followed by the parade at 11 a.m.
Other Saturday fair events in Stanton County include a moon walk, sand volleyball, Duck Drop, Pioneer of the Year reception, the Luna Brothers Circus, Pick-up and Pull and the Mud Run. Saturday night will end with the annual street dance behind the courthouse.
On Sunday, the Pioneer Days will close with an ice cream social. For more information call (620) 492-2101.
The Grant County fair also kicks off this weekend, with an annual Fun Run at 8 a.m. and a five-kilometer and one-mile run or walk starting at 7:30 a.m., both at the high school track in Ulysses.
At 6:30 p.m., there's a free Ranch Rodeo, which wraps up Saturday's events at the Grant County Fair. A 4-H dog show is the only Sunday event at the Grant County Fair, scheduled for 1 p.m.
In Lane County, there's a hot-dog-eating contest Friday, and a water slide and football toss, plus carnival rides, at 7 p.m.
Starting at 9:30 p.m., there's a free country fever dance under the grandstand.
There also will be a fireworks display at 10 p.m.
Saturday's events at the Lane County Fair include a 4-H beef show at 9 a.m., mud volleyball at noon, carnival rides at 7 p.m., a comedian and juggler at 7:30 p.m., and Everafter Band at 8:30.
On Sunday, there's a 4-H livestock sale at 5:30 p.m. and a fair supporters appreciation supper at 6:30 p.m.
Other events this weekend include:
- Emmaus House Cruise-In: Local car enthusiasts are invited to come and check out each others’ rides during the Emmaus House Cruise-In Friday night in the parking lot of Western State Bank, 1500 E. Kansas Ave. People with any type of vehicle and even works in progress are encouraged to gather from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Food booths will be open and Mobile Music Makers will provide music. A case of non-perishable food or $5 is the entrance fee.
- A Wild Affair: Live entertainment will be featured, along with food from local restaurants from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Lee Richardson Zoo. Tickets are $35 and must be purchased by today. Participants must be 21 or older.
- Garden City Municipal Band Concert: The band will have a concert in Stevens Park at 8 p.m. The concert is free to the public.
- YMCA Bedtime Stories Family Overnight: From 8:30 p.m. Friday until 8:30 a.m. and Saturday, the Garden City Family YMCA, 1224 Center St., will host story and family time. For more information contact Krystal Richardson at 275-1199.
- The Seventh Annual Juried Photography Show: Photographers of all ages can enter the Southwest Arts and Humanities Council photo show. The work is on display at the Arts Center on Main, 318 N. Main St. The gallery hours are noon until 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. For more information, contact Carol Geier at 260-9700.
- Airport Raceway: Enjoy junior sprints, micros and dwarfs races at the Garden City Airport Raceway near the airport at 8 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 271-7666.
- Finney County Young Professionals Barbecue: Join the young professionals at Finnup Park Shelter No. 1 at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for barbecue. The event will feature lawn games and swimming. RSVP to fcypchair@yahoo.com.
- Garden City Farmer’s Market: Vendors have a variety of fresh produce, homemade food and handcrafted items from 7 a.m. to noon every Saturday until Sept. 26 in the parking lot of Westlake Ace Hardware.
- Tribune City-wide Garage Sale and Ice Cream contest: Saturday the city of Tribune will hold a city-wide garage sale. The sales began at 8 a.m. MST. Maps will direct garage-salers to each site. Maps can be picked up at Dixon Drug, M&M Antiques and Eagle Convenience Store. For more information contact Mary Wright at (620) 376-2006. At 1 p.m., shoppers can enjoy ice cream at the Greeley County 4-H building during the homemade ice cream contest. Samples are available at the door for $1. Entry fee for ice cream is $5 per flavor. Contestants must bring two gallons of each flavor. Judges will select the top three flavors. The winner will take home $100, second place $50 and third $25. - Park on the Plains Poker Run: Cars and motorcycles are welcome. Sign-in is at the Scott City Pool Hall at 10 a.m. Saturday. Other stops are in Marienthal, Lakin and Holcomb, then back to Patton Park in Scott City for snacks and prizes. Cost is $10 for one hand and $25 for three hands. All proceeds to Park on the Plains. - Steven’s Park Concert Series: A bluegrass and spiritual band, House Blend, will entertain audiences at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Steven’s Park.
