Students win awards for their artwork
Middle school and high school art students from across western Kansas have entered work in the 14th Annual Western Kansas Scholastic Art Competition and Exhibition, on display through Sunday at the Stauth Memorial Museum in Montezuma. Judges awarded five American Vision best-of-show awards, 50 Gold Keys, 50 Silver Keys and 125 honorable mention awards. American Vision and Gold Keys will go on to compete at the national level in Washington D.C. Area winners include the following:

Teacher wins statewide honors
Carol Panzer, of Lakin, recently was honored as an Outstanding Educator Within the Education Service Center Community. The award is sponsored by the Kansas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. It goes to employees of education service centers in Kansas who display leadership in curriculum and instruction.
Panzer is the assistant director of instructional services and an education consultant for the Southwest Plains Regional Service Center in Sublette.
She coordinates workshops and in-services and serves school districts throughout the state.
Panzer taught Kansas students for more than 25 years and has been recognized as Kansas Teacher of the Year.
She also has attained National Board Certification, is a member of the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network and has served on several committees for the Kansas State Board of Education.
