Arbor Day event planned for Friday

The Garden City Parks and Tree Advisory Board would like the public's participation in this year's Arbor Day celebration at 3 p.m. Friday at the St. Mary School playground.

The board will announce first-, second-, and third-place winners for the city of Garden City in the 2008 Arbor Day poster contest. A tree will be planted at the school for the city-wide winner.

The board, the fifth grade teachers of USD 457, and all fifth-graders participating have worked together to achieve their recognition. This year's city-wide winner was also the Southwest Forest winner in the state and went on to win the state competition. Garden City has been the state winner in 2008, 2006 and 2004.
