457 cuts through program budgeting

The following is what each of the 15 USD 457 programs has proposed it would cut for the 2010-11 school year if it only received 98 percent of its previous funding:
 
Counseling: Decrease a counselor position; increase high school counselors’ days from 14 to 20; increase middle school counselors’ extra days from 11 to 15; increase intermediate counselors’ extra days from three to five; and increase materials for elementary and intermediate counselors.
Cost of cuts: $26,809

Facilities/maintenance: cut a painter position, $33,582; decrease a full-time custodian to a part-time custodian, $14,267; decrease office supplies, $950; cut general building maintenance, $10,000; decrease general building maintenance, $10,000; custodial supplies, $2,195; grounds maintenance, $1,200; district wide furniture repair, $1,500; district wide cabinets and shelves, $2,000; district wide painting, $3,000; building and grounds equipment, $9,000; energy, $3,000; security, $3,000; inservice, $250.
Cost of cuts: $90,444

Media Services: $28,675 would be cut from staff salaries by eliminating all but one extra day for librarians and all extra days for library paraprofessionals.

Supplemental: Eliminate parent liaisons, $34,300; eliminate half-time para position, $11,408; eliminate Watch DOGS, a program to foster parent participation, $6,000; add $3,594 to teaching and add $3,593 to office supplies.
Cost of cuts: $44,521

Elementary instruction: Eliminate matching funds, $12,500; Decrease equipment for vocal music, $2,677; Decrease PE equipment, $2,736; Eliminate special instruction, $9,500; decrease equipment art, $1,676; eliminate student planners, $5,940; eliminate lunch duty salary, $2,894; eliminate lunch duty social security, $241; eliminate field trips, $11,975; eliminate three teachers, $155,022; add to teaching supplies, $7,378.
Cost of cuts: $197,783

Activities: not fill a problem solving sponsor, $3,081; not fill an unfilled middle school instructional basketball position, $3,422; cut middle school spring tennis, $1,711; cut high school boys and girls intramural soccer and basketball, plus coordinator positions, $11,636.
Cost of cuts: $19,850

District wide administration: Reduce sub finder costs, $2,100; reduce FBI Investigations for background checks, $2,000; reduce building copies by two copies per student per day, $25,000; cut recruitment bonuses, $500; cut Social Security on recruitment bonuses, $1,199; decrease recruiting activities, $1,374.
Cost of cuts: $47,672

Special education: Reduce one speech language pathologist, $54,474; cut six para positions, $124,176; cut six salary student aids, $15,000; cut teaching supplies, $3,000; cut $400 from postage; $6,525 from testing; $5,292 in office supplies and equipment; $500 in printing supplies; and $4,190 in miscellaneous; add $2,500 for director and coordinator.
Cost of cuts: $213,497

Middle school instruction: Cut textbooks, $12,945; cut in-school suspension paras, $95,300; cut Social Security to ISS paras, $7,300; cut fringe benefits to ISS paras, $23,500; cut student planners, $10,120.
Cost of cuts: $149,165.

Curriculum and assessment: Reduce the Finney County Technical Learning Center position by half, $19,000; reduce academic contests account by $860; reduce the budget for mylearningplan.com by $2,250; increase the inservice lines for three administrative positions by $750 each.
Cost of cuts: $19,860

Transportation: Cut salary-field trips, $30,000; cut Social Security for field trip position, $2,280; cut physical for drivers, $5,000; cut motor fuel routes, $5,910, increase supplies/repair parts, $1,709.
Cost of cuts: $41,410.

High school instruction: cut two certified positions, increase teaching supplies by $529.
Cost of cuts: $127,270

Technology: Eliminate the purchase of replacement monitors in computer hardware rotation update, $48,941.
Cost of cuts: $48,941

Building administration: reduce building principals by half a position, $45,863; reduce building secretaries by one position, $30,757; cut inservice by $250; add $89 to office supplies.
Cost of cuts: $76,781

Health services: eliminate 21 extra nursing duty days, general inservice days will be eliminated, decrease staff Hepatitis B vaccinations, nurse supplies, and medical supplies. Audiology supplies would be decreased.
Cost of cuts: $16,605
