Children's theater coming to area

Published 10/27/2007 in News : Area coverage By Stephanie Farley

The Wichita Children's Theatre Professional Touring Company will perform at Satanta Junior/Senior High School auditorium at 9:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Nov. 7.

The company will present the musical version of "The Little Red Hen," which is the story of Little Red Hen, "a nice lady known and loved by all the barnyard animals until she asks, 'Who will help me make the bread?'" Hen's friends say they are all too busy to help her but scramble to her doorway to eat the bread. The story is about what makes friendships and is recommended for children in preschool through third grade.

Parents and preschoolers are invited to attend. There is no admission.

The Wichita Children's Theatre will present again on Nov. 8, performing "Yankee Doodle" at 9:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in the auditorium. The show is recommended for fourth- through sixth-graders. "Yankee Doodle" is a parade of highlights from 148 years in America from 1776 to 1927, including a musical review of the creation of the ice cream cone, the discovery of chewing gum and the beginning of mass-produced Valentines.

The touring theatrical company performs from September through February in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

The Satanta Area Arts Council is providing the performances for the public through the Western Kansas Community Foundation and Kansas Arts Commission. This is the 31st year the Satanta Arts Council has sponsored children's theater, inviting area schools to attend.

Seven schools with more than 1,300 students are set to attend this year's performances.
