A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in September for a Ulysses teacher and coach accused of raping a student.
According to the Grant County Attorney's Office, Rick Cue, 51, was charged with two counts of rape involving a 16-year-old student.
Cue, the head coach for the high school wrestling and girls' softball team, also is employed as a social studies teacher.
Cue said this morning that he would like to speak on the record about the situation but has been advised by his attorney, Wayne Tate, out of Hugoton, not to talk with the media.
In reference to the allegations, Cue said: "I wish I could say something. Frankly, I don't even know what to say."
Tate could not be reached for comment this morning.
USD 214 Superintendent Bill Hall said Cue was suspended with pay Tuesday pending further notification. He said he is not commenting on how the school found out about the accusations, stating it would violate confidentiality.
Cue was arrested Monday and the matter still is under investigation, said Robin Hathaway, Grant County attorney.
She said the Kansas Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the investigation and the Grant County Sheriff's Office is not releasing Cue's mug shot because the case still is under investigation.
Cue made his first appearance in court Wednesday when he was offficially charged and bond was set. Cue's next appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Grant County District Courthouse. He has been out on a $50,000 bond since Wednesday.
Cue was voted coach of the year in 1996 by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association and again in 1998 by the Kansas Wrestling Officials Association, according to the KWCA and KWOA Web sites.
Lee Gillen, USD 214 athletic director, said this morning he has no comment regarding Cue's arrest.
