Roy Herring captured top honors in the first Garden City Junior Chamber of Commerce handicap golf tournament at the Airlinks course yesterday.
Herring squeezed past Ted Johnson for the honors with both players finishing with 57's. Herring was awarded the top prize because of a lower handicap.
Golfers finished in this order: Dr. Roy Leopold, Butch Schiffelbein, Al Valenzuela, Jim Nicholas, Ernie Proudfit, Ed Knoll, Clem Savolt, Leonard Roth, Henry Wolley and Henry Otsuki.
Sidebar winners were Clarence Burgess, closest to the pin on No. 1; Bob Mathews, longest drive on No. 9; and Leonard Roth, longest putt on No. 7.
The handicap tourney was staged Saturday afternoon and Sunday. All told 31 golfers competed in the meet.
Merchandise prizes, donated by Garden City merchants, may be picked up at the Western Auto store.
