Judge William E. Hutchison and a view of cattle feeding on the Wes A. Wheeler ranch are among the subjects featured in an eight page photographic essay on Kansas in this week's Life magazine.
Judge Hutchison is pictured in his hotel room, standing behind a large, opened dictionary and the caption underneath reads: "Judge William Hutchison of Garden City, once on the State Supreme Court, has worn a Prince Albert 60 Years."
The judge said this morning that when the Life photographer was here last spring he had also taken an outdoors picture of him and that he wished that they had chosen it instead.
"People will think I don't know how to spell," he commented.
The Wheeler picture is identified as "the Fred Wheeler" ranch, but although Wes A. Wheeler could not be reached by telephone this morning, friends were certain that it was his place which was meant. The caption reads: "Fat cattle nuzzle happily into a 60-ton stack of alfalfa on the Fred Wheeler ranch near Garden City, in the former 'dust-bowl' area. These are 2-year-old Hereford heifers. The young chickens just wandered in to pick up some seeds."
