A bumper Finnup Park lion crop is being moved to market, and when the movement has ended only three lions will remain in the park's zoo.
Yesterday a three-year-old male was loaded on the late afternoon train and shipped by express to Baltimore, Md., where the animal will be placed in the Druid Hill park zoo. The lion brought $50, FOB Garden City, and the purchaser also must pay an express bill of approximately the same amount.
As usual, the lion didn't care to leave. A rope was dropped over his head and it took three men to pull the animal into his crate. He weighed 322 pounds.
Three of the lion cubs, born at the zoo about nine months ago, also will be prepared for shipment either late today or tomorrow. The cubs will be traded for San Antonio's surplus animals and birds. Chief of Police Lee Richardson is not sure what animals the city will get in exchange, but he has been studying a list of the types offered. No cash will be involved in the trade.
When the cubs are shipped only the pair of old lions, one seven and one eight years old, and one young female will remain at Finnup Park.
