Fiddlers to perform

The Western Plains Chapter of the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers will have its monthly program Sunday at the Lakin Recreation Center. Note that the event is taking place on the first Sunday of the month, rather than the usual second Sunday. The Lakin Recreation Center is two blocks west and one-half block south of the intersection of Highway 50/25, at 702 Campbell St.

Sign-up for performers will begin at 1 p.m., with the program beginning at 2 p.m. All area musicians are welcome to perform, and the public is invited at no charge. Donations will be accepted.

People attending may bring finger food to share for refreshments during the break midway through the program.

Senior Center double pinochle

Jeanette Taylor won high in the three tables of Senior Center double pinochle played Monday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Peggy Philip took second place. Third went to Nancy Leiker.

Sherlock Strivers 4-H

"What was your favorite Christmas present?" was the question for roll call answered by nine members of the Sherlock Strivers 4-H Club at the Jan. 10 meeting. There also were two leaders and three parents present.

Katie Mongeau led the club in the flag salute, and Ashley Mongeau led the 4-H pledge. Members reported that two names had been chosen off the Angel Tree for Christmas. Members were reminded that shooting sports will be meeting every other week at the livestock building at 6:30 p.m.

The club discussed having a skit at club days on Feb. 13 at Holcomb High School.

The financial committees met to review the financial report. Members also collected canned goods for Emmaus House.

Leaton McClelland was the birthday honoree. For recreation, members played a puzzle race. Following the meeting, members participated in a horticulture experiment about growing seeds in a glove.

The next meeting will be a club bowling party on Sunday.

Senior Center pitch

Mary Joseph won high in the three tables of Senior Center pitch played Tuesday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Second place went to Betty Harsh. Nancy Leiker took third.
