"Our father, who art in Lawrence, hallowed be they game. Thy tourney come. Thy championship will be done. In San Antonio as it is in Allen Field House.
"Give us this day, our deserved victory. And forgive us our turnovers as we forgive Roy who double-crossed against us. And lead us not into defeat. But deliver us from East Coast beasts. For Kansas is the basketball kingdom. And the tradition. And the glory. For ever and ever. Amen."

A woman of uncertain years accosted me with "You still write that column in The Telegram, don't you? I hardly ever read it."
Hmm! Well, duh, to you too, old dear.

More than a 150 dentists and 300 volunteer helpers spent two April days at the 3i Building at the Finney County Fairgrounds. There, they provided more than a million dollars in dental care to more than 2,000 patients.
No appointments necessary. Just first come/first served.

There wasn't an empty seat in the auditorium and its balcony at Garden City High School at "On Broadway!," the final show of the 2007-08 concert season Southwest Kansas Live on Stage.
A grand staircase was the centerpiece of the brilliant stage setting. Live musicians supported eight dazzling, energetic singers and dancers as they presented Broadway memories.
At show's end, the audience -- downstairs and up -- stood for long and loud rounds of appreciative cheers and applause for the show and, then, for Delores Gillen, who announced her retirement (after eight or nine seasons) of heading the concert series.

Looking back 50 years: The two automobiles that faded (pretty fast, too) with time were the 1958 models of Edsel and DeSoto.
The promos said "The Edsel is the only car you can shift without lifting a hand from the wheel. It had gear shift buttons in the center of the steering wheel hub." And the DeSoto sported fins!
