Lots of sports events on tap during BED

The Beef Empire Days schedule of events will have plenty of athletic activities for people to have fun out in the sun.
There are nine events scheduled consisting of two golf scrambles, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, health run, rodeo competition, archery tournament, horseshoe tournament, tennis tournament and softball tournament.
Saturday
- Hoof it to Health Road Run, 7 a.m. — The Garden City Family YMCA will host the annual 5K or 10K run and two-mile walk that starts at the YMCA facility on Center Street at 7 a.m. Every participant will receive a T-shirt and refreshments with paid registration. Contact Hoof it to Health chairwoman Stacy Crase at the YMCA at 275-1199 or the Beef Empire Days Office at 275-6807 for entry forms and additional information.
- BED Tennis Tournament, 8 a.m. — Anyone wanting to play in a tournament with singles, doubles, mixed doubles, men, women and youth are invited to the Grimsley-Harmon Tennis Complex. The tournament will start at 8 a.m. and concludes Sunday. Contact tennis chairman Bob Krug at 275-4758 to register or for more information.
- Buffalo Dunes BED Golf four-person scramble — The four-person scramble at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course starts with tee times at 8 a.m. and continues through 2 p.m. Contact event chairman Cole Wasinger at 276-1210.
- Horseshoe Tournament, 10 a.m., qualifying at 9 a.m. — Qualifying for the horseshoe tournament starts at 9 a.m. at the horseshoe pits south of the Big Pool in Finnup Park. Tournament play starts at 10 a.m. Men and women are welcome. There will be a $10 entry fee. All money returned in prizes. Contact event chairman Warren Schwab at 277-4523.
- 15th annual YMCA three-on-three Basketball Frenzy Tournament, noon. — Five divisions are available on the Finnup Park basketball courts starting at noon. All team are guaranteed three games. Teams will play round robin on Saturday, then finish with a double-elimination tournament Sunday. Divisions will be combined if they are not filled.
Sunday
- The Golf Club at Southwind BED four-person scramble — The four-person scramble at Southwind starts with tee times at 8 a.m. and continues through 2 p.m. Contact Southwind at 275-4080 for more information.
- Feedlot and Sponsor team roping, barrel racing and riding events, 10 a.m. — Area feedyard employees and "townies" are invited to enjoy barrel racing and team roping at the Finney County Fairgrounds Arena starting at 10 a.m. Cowboys and cowgirls compete in events open to any current Beef Empire Days sponsor. June 7
- High Plains Archery Club 3-D Tournament, 10 a.m. — The 3-D archery shoot starts at 10 a.m. at the outdoor range on East Mansfield Road. Prizes, a raffle and dinner are included with registration. Contact Tom Chappel at 271-4938 or any questions.
June 13-14
- Coors Light/Garden City Recreation Youth Benefit Softball Tournament, starts at noon on June 13. — Peebles and Wiley softball complexes will host the USSSA-sanctioned men's and women's softball tournament. Berths will be awarded and each team is guaranteed three games. Games begin at noon on June 13 and continue the following morning. Entry information is available at the Garden City Recreation Commission at 276-1200.
