Lauren Rumbaugh and Shayla Cobb clutched their pink and white roses after the Beef Empire Days PRCA Rodeo queen and princess coronation Friday night.

Rumbaugh, 17, was crowned Beef Empire Days Queen while Cobb, 14, was crowned as princess.

The two were among a handful of contestants in the queen and princess competition, which includes competitions in horsemanship and modeling, along with a speech and personal interview with judges.

Both said their favorite portion of the Beef Empire Days pageant was the horsemanship competition.

"I enjoy riding," Rumbaugh said. "I'm most comfortable on a horse."

Cobb said she was raised around horses her entire life and looks forward to attending rodeos each summer.

Now that the two have been crowned, they will travel to rodeos across the state and in neighboring states promoting Beef Empire Days and the beef industry.

Cobb, from Coldwater, will be a freshman at Greensburg High School in August. She said the most challenging part of the pageant was the speech. Each contestant gave a two-minute speech on the topic of rodeo. Cobb said she spoke on the topic of how technology helps cowboys in rodeo.

Rumbaugh is from Dodge City and will attend Dodge City Community College in August. She eventually plans to transfer to Kansas State University and study veterinary medicine.

She said the most challenging portion of the pageant was studying the information -- such as information on rodeos and knowledge of horses.

"It's a big honor," Rumbaugh said.
