For one of the few times all season, the Garden City Wind not only picked up a key victory on Sunday, but got a complete game pitching performance in a 14-2 rout of the Great Bend Boom in Great Bend.

The Wind, now 30-23 overall, hold a 1.5-game lead over the Trinidad Triggers. With 11 games remaining in the regular season, the Wind are keying on a postseason playoff spot after finishing last in their inaugural 2015 season.

They will host the Boom at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Clint Lightner Stadium. Of their 11 remaining games, seven are with the Boom and then they close out the regular season with a key four-game home stand against the Triggers.

In Sunday’s cruise, the Wind scored in six of the nine innings, cracked out 17 hits and played error-free ball in the field.

Riordan, meanwhile, evened his season record at 4-4, winning after two consecutive losses in which he gave up 15 runs in 11 innings. But Sunday, he was razor sharp, striking out nine and walking just one. He yielded just seven hits.

On the offensive side, Joey Cecere continued his torrid hitting (.357) with a three-hit game while also driving in three runs. Nick Francis and Brandon Nelson also picked up three hits each.

Willie Ethington blasted a three-run home run and Leon Stimpson drove in three runs.

Pecos League notes: Clay Ardeeser of the Wind is third in batting average at .425 and second in RBIs with 64.

Austin Boyle is second in pitching wins with seven and sports a 7-2 record. Marty Anderson is fourth in strikeouts with 72, that coming in 58 innings. He has an ERA of 2.63.
