The Stanton County girls enter the season with the excitement of knowing they return seven letter winners. The other to it is the Lady Trojans are still a pretty young team.

"We still have a very young team, but many of them have varsity experience," Stanton County coach Marty Garrison said. "We will look to Gylee Martin to lead the team offensively."

One of the most experienced players on the team, Martin was Stanton County's leading scorer as a sophomore. A Hi-Plains League first team selection, she will have plenty to work with this season. One player who could be able to help take some of the scoring load off of Martin's shoulders is senior Paige Wilson. The 5-foot-10 senior went down with a knee injury early in the season last year and missed most of the games from there.

"We are excited to have Paige Wilson back this year," Garrison said. "She is a solid post player both offensively and defensively. For a big player she can get up the court very well."

Wilson will have a lending hand from junior Alex Nichols down low. Courtney Siruta will also give the Lady Trojans a lift with the experience she returns with.

Finishing last season with a 6-15 mark and 11th place in the Hi-Plains League, the Stanton County boys team hopes experience will help the Trojans move up the standings.

Stanton County returns three starters and six other lettermen from last year.

"We're young, but we have a lot of kids that played last year," Stanton County coach Mark Stephenson said. "The kids are really working hard, and I've really enjoyed working with them."

The Trojans return three 6-foot-2 starters in juniors Austin Nairn and Leighton Grover and senior Alex Edmisson. The Trojans return three other juniors along with seniors Chris Sierra, Spencer Walker and Kenny Butler, who all lettered last season.
