Ulysses soon will be home to a Family Dollar store.

Located at 305 E. Oklahoma St., the store will cover 9,000 square feet, according to Richard Banes, building official with the city of Ulysses.

Banes said construction started around June 1. General contractor is SBA Construction in Wichita.

Bryn R. Winburn, public relations manager for Family Dollar in Charlotte, N.C., said the store is slated to open late this summer. A more specific opening date should be available in the next month.

As for why Family Dollar chose to open a store in Ulysses, Winburn said in an email to The Telegram, “At Family Dollar, our goal is to open stores in neighborhoods and communities that are in close proximity to where our customers live and work. Our real estate team utilized sophisticated modeling software to determine that Ulysses would be an ideal site for a Family Dollar store.”

Each Family Dollar employs between eight and 10 people.

“And we look to hire from the communities we serve,” Winburn said in the email.

Those interested in applying may visit, she said.
