Lewis Automotive in Garden City has announced that the dealership has been recognized by General Motors as one of its Mark of Excellence Dealers for the second straight year.
The distinction is reserved for dealerships that exhibit professionalism and superior customer service, while growing their business in Garden City, according to a press release. Out of GM’s approximately
4,500 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealerships across the country, Lewis Automotive Garden City was one of only 308 to receive the Mark of Excellence award and was the only dealership in Kansas to win it, as well.
The dealership, which has more than 30 employees, has been in business in Garden City since 1992.
General Manager Mike Shook said his father-inlaw, Jim Lewis, opened his first Toyota dealership in Dodge City in 1979, and before that, his dad owned a Toyota dealership in Topeka.
Shook said the award has to do with the sales and service department.
He added it takes the whole dealership to win the recognition, but it could not be won without great employees and community support.

The trophy for Mark of Excellence Dealers is big, Shook said. It weighs about 30 pounds and is made of solid marble and granite.
It will be displayed at the dealership.
