This week's selection in the Second Friday Films series shown at the Finney County Public Library, 605 E. Walnut St., is a 2012 movie, "Searching for Sugar Man."

The film follows two South Africans who set out to discover what happened to their unlikely musical hero, Rodriguez, a mysterious 1970s rock-and-roller.

The free films are shown at 7 p.m. on the second Friday of the month. Refreshments are available.

Catch the "Country Fever" Saturday

A dance featuring "Country Fever" will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Lodge, U.S. Highway 83 and Mary Street.

The dance is open to the public.

High Plains Country Music Fiddlers meet

The High Plains Country Music Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers will have its monthly program Sunday at the Memorial Building on Main Street in Lakin.

Sign-up will begin at 1 p.m., with the program to start at 2. All area musicians are welcome to come join in and help provide the program that afternoon.

There will be a short break for snacks. Feel free to bring a snack to share.

Youth dance classes begin next week

Garden City Recreation Commission will offer youth dance classes, beginning next week and led by Marla Hoffman, who is returning to the youth dance program.

Hoffman brings 20 years of dance instruction with toddlers through college students. She will teach basic dance steps in ballet, jazz and hip-hop during the 12-week program.

Her dance classes for youth age 2 through sixth grade will begin Monday and Tuesday at the activity center, 310 N. Sixth St. The classes culminate with a recital where the students show examples of the skills learned along the way. She also will offer a "Parent Toddler" class on Tuesday mornings.

Classes are $40 for the 12 weeks. Classes are divided by age and take place once a week on either Mondays or Tuesdays.

Prom tickets

now on sale

Tickets for the Garden City High School prom are on sale for $50. Tickets will be sold before school in Room C115 in the Arts & Communication Academy on the Garden City High School campus, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd. Checks are to be made to Student Funds.

Seniors and early graduates will receive one free ticket, which needs to be picked up when tickets are being sold. Picture packet information will be given to students when they pick up their tickets.

The GCHS prom will be held March 29. Prom is for juniors and seniors but freshmen, sophomores, and non-GCHS guests may accompany a GCHS junior or senior student. Non-GCHS guest forms will be available when tickets are sold.
