Redhawk baseball to hold tryouts

The Redhawk Baseball and Softball Academy is sponsoring a community youth baseball team for the 2015 summer season.

The team, which will be coached by Travis Brunson, will travel and compete regionally in the 18 and under division. Brunson will also be assisted by Garden City High School coach Bill Wilson.

The teamís roster will be made up of eligible players who have not reached their 19th birthday by June 1, 2015. An open tryout will be held at noon on April 18, at Clint Lightner Stadium, to determine a minimum of 15 roster spots.

For parents of players selected, there will be a meeting at 7 p.m. April 25 at the Redhawk Academy, 909 E. Fulton.

The Redhawk Academy Inc. is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit corporation under the IRS code and is staffed by volunteers. The organizationís mission is to provide growth opportunities to youth in both baseball and softball.

GCRC to conduct Pitch, Hit & Run

The Garden City Recreation Commission will be conducting the 2015 Pitch, Hit and Run competition.

The competition will be held at 6 p.m., April 27, at Charles Peebles Complex.

Sponsored by the Major League Baseball Association, the competition allows boys and girls to showcase their skills. Contestants compete in batting, base-running and pitching. Youth qualifiers may advance to sectionals and finals if they perform well in the local qualifying.

GCCC to hold spring golf event

Garden City Community College is holding its Spring Golf Scramble on April 18 at The Golf Club at Southwind.

There will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m., with entry fee set at $85 per person. Entry includes hole and flight prizes, as well as lunch, golf and cart fees.
