Food, fitness fun at Alta Brown

Alta Brown Elementary School will host a Family Food, Fitness and Fun Night 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday. The event is in the west gymnasium at the school, 1110 E. Pine St. The evening includes 11 exhibitors from the community with information on health, nutrition and fitness. There will be games and healthy snacks, too, along with prizes, during the event.

Assembly with former NFL player Keith Davis

Parents are invited to a meeting with former NFL player Keith Davis and other NFL and college football players about bullying at 7 p.m. Monday night in the Garden City High School Auditorium, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

The group will speak to students during school assemblies Feb. 17 to 20 about putting an end to bullying. The group promotes the idea that winning in life takes drive and vision from within. Students will leave inspired to pursue big dreams and believe in themselves.

The assemblies are sponsored by the Finney County Community Health Coalition Violence Prevention Initiative, which is sponsored by St. Catherine Hospital through a grant from Catholic Health Initiatives.

War Birds is next Brown Bag topic

The Finney County Historical Museum is closed Monday for President's Day, but the Brown Bag Lunch Series continues Tuesday with "War Birds."

Each program in the free presentation begins at noon in the meeting room of the museum, 403 S. Fourth St. Bring a lunch; beverages and homemade dessert are provided.

"War Birds" is presented by Daryl Hopkins of Garden City, focusing on the highly-trained carrier pigeons that helped the allies win World War II. Next is"The Airbase" on Feb. 25 by Museum Education Coordinator Johnetta Hebrlee, showing how the U.S. Army Air Corps training base in Finney County played a role in the war and evolved into Garden City Regional Airport.
