If you visit the zoo this week it may seem like everything is calm as usual, but there is a steadily building excitement behind the scenes. Preparations are in full swing for our annual "A Wild Affair" event coming up at 6 p.m. Saturday. This year's theme is Jungle Boogie and everyone is getting into the groove.
"A Wild Affair" is the zoo's biggest fund-raising event of the year. Some of the evening's attractions include delectable foods provided by a variety of regional restaurants and a well-stocked beer and wine bar. While you enjoy the sumptuous cuisine you may choose to take a leisurely stroll through our silent auction while listening to music by the Fulton Street Band. Thanks to our many sponsors and donors, you are sure to find plenty to bid on in both our silent and live auctions. Auction items include a big-screen television, art creations of and by several of the zoo's animals, jewelry, a variety of vacation getaways and much more. All proceeds go to zoo improvement projects and help ensure our zoo remains one of the best around.
If you would like to be a part of the wildest event in town, it isn't too late. Tickets cost $45 and can be purchased until 3 p.m. Saturday at the Finnup Center, Baker Boot, Herb's Carry Out, Patrick Dugan's Coffee House or Wheatfields on Main. The weather is going to be beautiful and I can't think of a better way to spend the evening than with good food, good music and good company under the stars.
This year's "A Wild Affair" is especially exciting because it is in full view of the zoo's newest development, Cat Canyon, which was funded in part by past "A Wild Affair" events. Once finished, Cat Canyon will be the new home of our jaguars, bobcats and mountain lion. If you are as excited about Cat Canyon as we are, the live auction will provide you with the opportunity to purchase the privilege of being present on moving day when the cats first settle in to their new home.
So buy your tickets now and join us as we do the Jungle Boogie. It's sure to be a wild affair!
