Volunteer coffee Saturday at LRZ

Lee Richardson Zoo will have its annual volunteer coffee and open house at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Finnup Center for Conservation Education , 312 E. Finnup Drive.

Individuals interested in learning more about volunteering at the zoo are encouraged to attend. Attendees will get to meet animals used in the zoo's education programs, learn about ways they can help the zoo, visit with current volunteers and tour the education center.

Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways, including setting up for special events, presenting animal programs and providing animal enrichment.

Both weekend and weekday volunteers are needed. No prior experience or scientific knowledge is necessary; volunteers will receive training to develop skills and knowledge. Volunteers must be 16 or older and able to attend training sessions beginning in mid-January.

Common Core meeting scheduled Jan. 11

For those wanting to learn more about the College Career Ready Standards, otherwise known as Common Core, plan on attending an informative meeting in Cimarron at 3 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Cimarron Library, 120 N. Main. Please use the north entrance.

Grant County Blood Drive Tuesday

Grant County will be hosting a Blood Drive Tuesday in the South Room at the Grant County Civic Center.

The blood drive is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. that day.

Walk-ins are welcome. Please bring your donor card or photo I.D. Donors must be 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds, and 16 year olds may donate with parental permission. The Blood Drive also encourages cancer survivors to donate if they have been in remission for one year.
