Half Fast Singers to perform Tuesday

Two musical programs are scheduled this week at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St.

A program of music and wit will be presented by "The Half Fast Singers" at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The group consists of David Miller, Richard Taylor, Wendel Wurst and Dr. Mark Neuman.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the music program "Hymns, Harmony and Harmonica," will feature special singing by Fielding Hands, harmonica favorites by Robert Widows, and Francine McAdams at the piano.

The public is encouraged to attend at no charge.

Register now for Girl Scout conference

The Girl Scout Regional Office in Garden City is presenting Leadership Conference 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in St. Catherine Hospital's Classroom A, lower level. The conference is free to Girl Scouts from sixth grade and up, and to Girl Scout volunteers. The fee for non-scout participants is $15.

Breakout sessions will address leadership development topics, such as verbal and non-verbal communication, mentoring, healthy communities, goal setting and teamwork.

Local women leaders attending include Beverly Schmitz Glass, executive director of Downtown Vision; Lona DuVall and Allie Medina with Finney County Economic Development Corp.; Janet Doll, city commissioner and businesswoman; Carol Meyer, Kansas Department of Commerce Office of Rural Opportunity; Stephanie Gaskill, Girl Scouts Kansas Heartland chief operation officer; Katrina Lowry, assistant program director for Finney County Community Health Coalition; and Missy Allen, director of Circles of Hope.
