This week at the Senior Center we received the 2010 LIEAP applications. LIEAP stands for Low Income Energy Assistance Program. This program provides one-time benefits to residences to help with energy bills. Qualifications include an adult living at the address must be personally responsible for purchasing heating costs incurred at the residence, payable either to the landlord or to the fuel vendor. The applicants must demonstrate a recent history of payments toward purchase of the primary heating energy. The combined gross income (before deductions) of all persons living at the address may not exceed 130 percent of the federal poverty level. For example, maximum gross monthly income for a household of one is $1,174. For a household of two it is $1,579. Add $406 for each additional person in the household. You must provide proof of household income and utility account(s).
