At Dighton, Greeley County's boys earned a repeat trip to the Class 1A state basketball tournament in Hays by capturing the Division II sub-state title on Saturday night, 51-35, over the Healy Eagles in the Dighton sub-state.

Saturday's game was a battle between two Western Kansas/Liberty League rivals, and saw a low-scoring start to the game as the winning Jackrabbits (20-3) took a 9-6 lead after the first quarter.

With a 12-8 second quarter edge, Greeley County extended its lead over the Eagles to 21-14 at halftime, and would build that lead gradually in the second half, outscoring Healy 16-11 and 14-10 in the final 16 minutes of action.

Greeley County senior Jonathan Miller scored 23 points, balancing it with 10 points in the first half and 13 in the final two quarters. Stephen Houston added 14 points to the winning cause.

"They played a 2-3 zone, and extended it some, and if you can't shoot them out of it, you've just got to grind it out," said Greeley County coach Jeff Starkey. "It was that kind of game. I wasn't unhappy with the halftime score. I thought we kind of wore them down in the second half and that's when Johnny (Miller) started to take over."

The Jackrabbits have drawn the No. 1 seed in the Division II state tourney, the first year for Class 1A to be divided into two divisions.
